Biography

Reading and listening to classical music, especially opera, has always been my way of getting back to basics. I also love travelling the world, discovering new cultures and meeting new people. Being of Italian origin, my passion for architecture and design came naturally, and I graduated in civil engineering. In 1972 I began teaching at IUAV, the University of Venice, where I became full professor of Theory and Design of Bridges in 1994. I am currently Rector of the online university eCampus (Italy), where I teach bridge theory and design.

I am also a consultant professor at the College of Civil Engineering of Tongji University (Shanghai, China) and an adjunct professor at Fuzhou University and Chang’an University (Xi’an, China). I am a former member of the CUN, the National University Council at the Ministry of Education in Rome (2007–2015), and served as its deputy president (2007–2013).

In 2009, I was awarded an honorary degree in Architecture by the Politecnico di Bari.

My projects include the refurbishment of a historic bridge in Borgo Tossignano (Bologna, 2006), the footbridge over the Adige in Legnago (Verona, 2005), which received the Barbara Cappochin Architecture Prize, the bridge over the Tergola canal in Villa del Conte (Padua, 1999) and the footbridge over the Bacchiglione at Ponte San Nicolò (Padua, 1998).
